CORPORATE HISTORY
The history of International Medical Group, Inc.sm (IMG) is
quite unique. Jeff Brougher, IMG's current Chairman, was founder and inventor of stop-loss
medical plans as we know them today. Jeff Brougher has been in the insurance industry
since 1955 and began selling stop-loss insurance in 1976. In 1982 Jeff formed the Brougher
Insurance Group (B.I.G.) in Indianapolis and eventually became the largest writer of
stop-loss medical insurance in the U.S. for several years. In addition to this, Jeff
formed a MEGA TREATY which placed hundreds of millions of dollars in stop-loss medical
with several of the largest reinsurers worldwide.
In 1989, Jeff sold B.I.G. to the Swedish insurance company,
WASA Group of Sweden, who held a prior reinsurance relationship with B.I.G. before their
acquisition. During the sale of B.I.G. (which resulted in the creation of WASA North
America) a subsidiary company of the Brougher Insurance Group titled IMNI (which
functioned mainly as a Research and Development Firm) was included in the transaction. A
few weeks after WASA's acquisition Jeff purchased IMNI back from WASA with the hopes of
marketing insurance products internationally. IMNI was then renamed IMG and began selling
travel medical insurance worldwide.
IMG, formally incorporated in 1990, and sold only
individual and group travel medical products until 1993. After 14 months of research and
development IMG and WASA entered into a partnership agreement to introduce Global Medical
Insurancesm in the United States and the international community. Global Medical Insurance
is fully insured by WASA International (UK) Insurance Company Limited. WASA International
(UK) Insurance Company is wholly owned and operated by WASA Group and as such its
financial obligations are ultimately backed by the holding company.
